That to me will always beat physical games because you would have had to purchase 2 copies of the game to do the same thing. A good example is something like Saints Row 3, I purchased a single copy of the game digitally and played co-op with my daughter online. I have no issues with sharing digital games on the switch and, like others have mentioned, both my daughter and I can play the same game that I purchased digitally, together on separate switches. Does the same work for Apple family plans? That seems like the ideal setup, but something like that for console or PC games seems pretty remote. From what I can tell, something like a family Office 365 subscription can be shared among like 5 people, and they can all use everything with little to no restrictions. I'm curious about the differences between the economics of game software versus things like office software or phone software. super frequent online drm checks or gtfo" Especially seeing the stuff from the Activision merger about getting more favorable revenue splits for COD from first parties, you know the big publishers were like "we're not putting games out on your fancy sharing platform unless you make sure that shit can't be copied in any way. But without the 24hr check-in, I don't think publishers get on board with this at all. And of course, all of this is under the umbrella of a 24hr check-in that everyone hated. The obvious thing that comes to mind is Steam's setup, and also the proposed ideas for the original Xbox One that came beforehand, though even that page seems to imply that maybe only one other family member could access your library at any given time from a separate console (though it seems like you wouldn't have to do all the home console workarounds with this setup, and you could both play the same game online at least?). I always assumed that if any sort of simple and expansive family sharing setup was to become a thing, that'd inherently require much more onerous DRM to get publishers to be ok with it.
